The Merrie Monarch Festival is a non-profit organization that honors the legacy of King David Kalākaua, who inspired the perpetuation of our traditions, native language and arts. Several of us were fortunate enough to be able to visit Hilo this year and enjoy all of the events, entertainment, food, vendors, and cultural experiences. We had a lot of fun and highly suggest attending if you have never been before.

Dance is a language that tells our story, keeps our culture alive, and builds community. But for us modern Polynesian dance business owners, that story also needs to be told in reels, stories, and scheduled posts. I’ve realized that to keep the fire of our dance passion burning I have to keep my own fire from burning out. That means juggling studio practices, personal family time, and content creation with intention. This blog is my journey of navigating this digital age while staying rooted in our Pacific heritage.
