Charmaine’s lighthearted yoga classes are explorations of breath, movement, and fluidity. She encourages students to have fun and be empowered. While you can expect to leave your mat feeling grounded and centered, she also encourages students to break through any self-limiting beliefs that are stored in the body’s cellular muscle memory.
As a movement artist, she is known to weave elements of the different yoga styles into her classes. “We always want to keep our body in an awakened state,” she explains. Her practice inspires students to see yoga as a journey of self-discovery, mastery and a tool for optimum wellbeing. Charmaine turned to yoga in 1996, after suffering chronic health problems exacerbated by a high profile career. She credits yoga with restoring her health, which led her on a healing journey to study alternative medicine. She eventually received her Reiki Master certification. |
In 2001, she moved to California to pursue a dream of working in the film industry. It was her eye-opening experiences of the dark side of Hollywood that inspired her to teach yoga. What she saw were many people struggling with anxiety disorders and depression. From celebrities who appeared to have-it-all, to struggling actors, they were all addicted to prescription drugs for pain management. It was this sobering reality that motivated her to teach others the benefits of yoga as a complementary therapy.
In 2013, she received her 200-hour Yoga Alliance teaching certification. She has since taught various yoga styles to people from all walks of life.
Charmaine currently teaches a weekly yoga class at her workplace. Because her company also has many work-at-home employees in sedentary jobs, she began video-conferencing her classes, enabling her to teach employees across the country.
During the summer, she fosters her love of nature by teaching outdoors at Hudson Gardens Yoga in the Gardens program.
