Most of the classes are taught by Glenda (Aiwa). The structure of classes include warm-up with technique specific to type of class, drills, and choreography. Choreography varies from Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced class. Aiwa teaches her Hula classes with the ILIMA style of dance that was taught by Kumu Kas Nakamura from Halau Pulama Mau Ke Aloha Ka Ohana Ilima- MD. She teaches her Tahitian classes with styles from Kumu Mireille Thornton “MA” from The Mai-Kai Polynesian Restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale FL. Mireille’s techniques are a fusion of modern with traditional and ancient style elements. MA would bring in teachers from the islands to work with the dancers and teach the dancers. The show would be changed every year. She has hired professionals from Polynesian Culture Center and from Tahiti (ex. Lorenzo~ Le Grande Ballet). Many dancers who have had the chance to work with Kumu Kas and Mireille Thornton are very blessed to have that opportunity.
***Aiwa is also available for “Polynesian Dance Aerobics” workshops as she teaches a professional technique to aerobics instructors who would like to learn on how to incorporate “Polynesian Dance Aerobics” in the gym! Creative dance routines is incorporated into the popular aerobics “8 count” and even step routines. Strength Training Techniques are also incorported into this FUN WORKOUT! Call for more details!
