halau kalama

Polynesian Party Planners and the Kalama Polynesian Dance Group was founded by feature Dancer Glenda (Aiwa) Bautista.  Glenda is a professional polynesian dancer and instructor who has trained with many halaus (hula schools) across the country.   Most of her childhood training comes from the Ilima style of dance (Kumu Kas Nakamura) as she  started dancing at a young age (6 years old). She has danced professionally for more than 12 years at the world famous Mai- Kai Polynesian Restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.  (www.maikai.com)  which has been an established and well known landmark since 1956.  There she learned under the instruction of Mireille Thornton
“MA” as she influenced the ancient, traditional, and modern styles of Polynesian Dance.  Ma brought many talented instructors to the Mai- Kai to teach including experts from The Polynesian Culture Center in Hawaii, Lorenzo from Le Grande Ballet, Maire from O Tahiti Te’e, Joanna from Drums of Polynesia, etc…

“The greatest dancers from all over has graced the stage of the Mai-Kai”~ Aiwa

Glenda created “Polynesian Dance Aerobics” fusing Polynesian Dance and Fitness together.  And when not performing, teaches classes in Aurora, Colorado at ENCORE dance studio and Dance Core. http://www.encore-dance-studio.com/home.htm .  Check the classes section for dates and times.
