About Jontae
Jontae has been a member of Halau Kalama since 2012. After competing in hula and various Ori Tahiti competitions, she was approached by her ra’atira Glenda to start teaching “conditioning classes” to help dancers increase their strength and stamina for competitive dance and overall physical health. While her fitness fusion classes pull out all of the stops to get dancers to their optimal level of fitness, she welcomes anyone who’s just looking to get a good workout!
Jontae’s dance fusion classes were borne out of a eclectic dance background (musical theatre, hip-hop, Brazilian, contemporary). She also found that creativity came to her easily and inspired dancers to give their all by pairing Tahitian dance with modern music. After teaching a one-off dance fusion workshop in 2018, the demand for similar choreography continued to grow. She is excited that Halau Kalama is now offering it as a regular class!
When she is not teaching fusion classes, Jontae proudly teaches intermediate hula for the halau and dances as a company member for Kalama Polynesian Dancers.
