KULEANA
HA`AHA`A / `IKE LOA
HO`OHANA / ALAKA`I
MĀLAMA / HO`OHANOHANO
KĀKOU / LŌKAHI
- *ARRIVE ON TIME!* Arriving on time ensures that you, as well as your fellow students, receive the full time and instruction allotted to you.
- Bring all required class materials (hula book/folder, writing instrument, paper, pa’u skirt, etc.) to every class.
- Make sure any assigned research or task is completed prior to class.
- *PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE* when you are not in class; having to constantly review the same things due to forgetting/not reviewing on your own time eats up valuable class time.
HA`AHA`A / `IKE LOA
- Remember that there are many different styles of hula and schools of thought.
- Ask questions.
- Empty your cup—never stop learning!
- Give grace to with yourself as you learn and grow.
- Give grace to your instructors as they are also learning and growing.
HO`OHANA / ALAKA`I
- Always try to give 100% effort. If for some reason you cannot, let your instructor(s) know.
- Stay focused: keep your eyes and ears open.
- Set a good example through good energy and determination.
MĀLAMA / HO`OHANOHANO
- Respect the space we dance in by keeping it clean--no gum chewing, no open drinking containers; no clutter.
- Remove your shoes and place them on the mats; place personal belongings in the cubbies.
- Be sure you are doing your part whenever we are assigned to clean the studio.
- Avoid excessive talking that could possibly distract your fellow students.
- Leave all drama OUTSIDE of the studio.
KĀKOU / LŌKAHI
- If something comes up, let your instructors know ahead of time or as soon as possible, no matter what it pertains to (attendance, concerns, etc.) so that a solution can be worked on. The longer you wait, the more difficult it becomes to solve.
